Student Association
ULESSA
Together with a handful of classmates from the English Studies, we have founded the first association specifically for and by English Studies students, ULESSA (University of Luxembourg English Studies Students' Association).
Our goal was to create a student live on the new Belval campus of the University of Luxembourg in 2016 and to provide activities and support for the students in English language.
In this association, I was the secretary, which was a challenging position. Together with a second secretary, we were responsible to keep track of upcoming events and official procedures, meetings related to the functioning of the association. My role in particular was to keep the minutes, organize the meetings and to keep track of our events.
Through my position as a secretary, I have learned to how associations function and that communication is vital within any group of people.
This association also allowed me to be in contact with many students and staff of the university and to see the mechanisms of bigger organizations from the inside. I have also learned to be determined, ready to spend energy and time and to participate to events, the Open Day of the university and many other extra-curricular activities.
Student Journalist
During my studies, I have participated to conferences organized by the English Studies department, and also by the University of Luxembourg. In May 2017 I participated to the Transatlantic Dialogue conferences as 'student journalist'.
I contributed to the booklet created after this event and my reports about four conferences which I have attended were included in the booklet. The topics dealt with cultural diplomacy and soft governance, which were unknown concepts for me before attending and reporting about these conferences. This event opened my eyes to the different forms governance can take place and how the promotion of culture can be used in diplomatic discussions.
Here are my contributions to the booklet which was published by the University of Luxembourg after the conferences.

Maxime Jaffré & Elena Raevskikh: The European Capitals of Culture Program as a Tool of Cultural Diplomacy: A comparative survey in France, Sweden, Poland and Italy
Tricia Sherrard: Decolonising International Education by Confronting our Historical Context
Daniel M. Pattarini: Governments and Cultural Diplomacy: Soft Power, Transformative Results
Miki Sugimura: International Higher Education Policy as Cultural Diplomacy in Asia

Debates
#Feed Your Brain Now Debates
I have participated to two debates which were both enriching experiences. They were challenging as I had to work with colleagues who I did not meet previously and to find a common way to resolve the problem which was given to us. For these debates, I profited greatly from the debating skills that I have learned in my English Studies courses.

Museums and galleries
I find it really inspiring to be up to date with contemporary arts and therefore I visit arts galleries and museums regularly wherever I am.

During the summer 2019, I volunteered in the Talbot Rice Gallery in Edinburgh to gain an isnight into the contemporary arts scene of Edinburgh. I also attended a summer school in the summer 2019, organised by the Centre for Special Collections of the Univesity of Edinburgh. This summer school allowed me to gain an insight into museums and gallery management and the challengesthat today's museums, galleries and libraries face.

I have written a more detailed account on the blog section of this page about my volunteering experince and the things I have learnt during the summer school.

Collages and drawings
One of my majors in high school was arts and I focused on black and whtite ink drawings and installations.

Later, I started doing collages out of magazines. I combine text, bigger images and smaller elements and organise them around a theme.
