Summer School, The University of Edinburgh CRC - Day 5

This last day of the summer school focused on careers opportunities and an insight into the job market of the museum and library sector as well as an overview of what it means to be a librarian.

To conclude the Summer school, we had group presentations which we have prepared throughout the week in diverse topics such as social media strategies, displaying techniques, how to engage the public about the collection etc.

The topic on which my group focused this week was a Digital Wall which is planned to be installed in the University library. Our task was to look at what and how it could be displayed, the possibilities that the digital wall could have to engage students better with the collections and the challenges that the Digital Wall can have. My part specifically focused on the challenges and solutions, for instance I suggested for the challenge of gathering data the use of UX metrics as the best way to gather data about the user experience.

All in all, the CRC Summer School was an extremely insightful and enriching experience because we got to learn about the internal mechanisms and the diverse and sort of more tucked away job opportunities that exist within the sector. We also had the chance to look at, touch and engage with objects that are unexpected and we could otherwise not have been able to engage with.

A big thank you for the CRC to organizing the Summer school, it really was an amazing experience!*
